Lifeline & ACP

What is the Lifeline Program?

Lifeline is a government benefit assistance program that provides free cell phone service for eligible customers. It covers monthly data, texting, and monthly minutes. If you receive assistance from Medicaid/Medi-Cal, SNAP/CalFresh, or other government assistance programs, or meet the income guidelines, you may be approved for FREE lifeline phone service.*

To ensure eligible Americans have access to critical communication services the Federal Communication Commission established the Lifeline Assistance service in 1985.

ABOUT LIFELINE

What is ACP?

The Affordable Connectivity Program, or ACP, is a government program that provides discounts on monthly broadband Internet services. Eligible customers can receive upgraded plans that include additional free* data each month.

Congress implemented the Affordable Connectivity Program on December 31, 2021. The programs intended to be a long-term, $14 billion program to replace the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program (EBB) which was launched early 2021 to help COVID-19 impacted Americans stay connected. Eligibility for the ACP will be determined by the National Verifier, administered by the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC).
